Folios 329-330: Benjamin Walker, HMS Helder, Humber. Reports that William Leake was impressed from the George of Hull on passage from the Baltic, he had no protection but called himself the servant of William Smith, a horse dealer from Market Weighton.
Folios 331-332: enclosed in folios 329-330. Letter dated 28 September 1805 by Robert Galland, attorney, Hull, to the Admiralty. At the request of William Smith of Market Weighton he applied to the commander of HMS Helder for the release of his servant William Leake, who was impressed from the George, Captain Thomas Hague, on his return from St Petersburg by an officer from HMS Helder. He is now told by Commander Walker that he must apply to the Admiralty for Leake's release. Leake is a groom of Mr Smith, who is a horse dealer and exporter to Russia, and was returning home in the George. He is not a seaman but a servant of Mr Smith, who trusts the Admiralty will order his immediate release.
