Folios 326-327: Benjamin Walker, HMS Helder, Humber. Encloses a letter from Robert Galland, an attorney at Hull, demanding the discharge of William Leafe, who has been impressed aboard his ship, and threatening a lawsuit against the officer who impressed him. William Leafe was impressed from the George of Hull, had no protection but claimed to be a groom of William Smith, a horse dealer from Market Weighton. Asks directions whether the man should be discharged.
Folio 328: enclosure with folios 326-327. Letter dated 24 September 1805 by Robert Galland, attorney, Hull, to Commander Benjamin Walker. William Smith of Market Weighton has asked him to demand the discharge of William Leafe, who was pressed while a passenger on the George, Captain Thomas Hague, returning from St Petersburg to Hull, where he was acting as groom to his master's horses. Asks for Leafe's immediate discharge, otherwise he threatens legal action against the officer who impressed him as Leafe does not come under the description of a mariner and is not liable to be taken for sea service.
