Description

Folios 322-323: Benjamin Walker, HMS Helder, Humber. No one of the name or description contained in the letter of August 23 1805 has been impressed aboard his ship, but understands that a man of that name was pressed aboard HMS Thalia in the Humber.

Folios 324-325: enclosed with 322-323. Letter dated 24 July 1805 by Elizabeth Loft, Beverley, wife of Samuel Loft late of Queens Head, Wednesday Market, Beverley, to the John Wharton, MD, Selton Castle, Yorkshire. Her son Timothy Loft has been impressed but is unfit and when impressed before was examined before the Regulating Captain by Doctor Kirkman and declared unfit because of a rupture in his private parts, when he was returning in the Loyal George of Hull from a voyage to Greenland he was impressed again by ships lying below Hull. They have written to the Admiralty with the facts, attested to by his Minister and Church Wardens. Asks Dr Wharton to use his interest with the Admiralty for his disconsolate parents, his father last lost his sight and power of speech because of two strokes of Palsy and she now has to support him.
