Folio 315: Benjamin Walker, HMS Helder, Hawke Roads. Reports that the facts about John Taylor are correctly stated in the petition, he is to some degree infirm and he has promised to find a more effective man to serve in his place.
Folio 316; Attached to folio 315. A petition from John Taylor, HMS Helder, River Humber, to the Admiralty. 12 August 1805. States that he is a seaman serving aboard HMS Helder commanded by Captain Benjamin Walker, is 46 years old and afflicted with rheumatism, has a wife, five children and two grandchildren in Hull to support, he has applied to Captain Walker for his discharge but this has been declined, asks to be discharged if he can find a more able seaman to take his place, to be approved by Captain Walker. The petition is counter-signed by four residents of Hull who know Taylor, John Harneis, [Geo Escinter ?], Christopher Briggs and [Wm V C Bolter ?].
