Description

Captured ship: Unity of Hamburg, otherwise Eendracht (master Hance Johnson of Hamburg, otherwise Hans Jansen).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (40 lasts), bound from Hamburg to La Rochelle, laden with pipe staves and sea coal; taken on 9/19 December 1673 off St Helens, the Isle of Wight, by HMS Hopeful Margaret dogger (John Robinson commanding) and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: three examinations taken at Portsmouth, 10 December 1673;
  • [CP 2]: abstract of papers numbered 1-5 (mentioned in the examinations);
  • [CP 3]: claim.

Extra information:- see IND 1/9012 f.21v: restored (and papers returned to the master), 19 December 1673.
