Description

Folios 325-326: James Athol Wood, HMS Acasta, off Rochefort. Responding to directions to report on William Scriven, pressed on board the Acasta. He was pressed because he did not match the description of the person on the indenture produced by the Master who claimed him as an apprentice.The indenture had been altered. Captain Wood believes he is attempting to impersonate another person, and gives a description of the person on board.

Folio 327-328: enclosure with folios 325-326. John Hacker, 12 Craven Buildings, London, 19 September 1804, to the Admiralty. Encloses a letter of protection issued to William Scrivens, an apprentice pressed on board HMS Acasta, and a letter received from a gentleman at Weymouth regarding the case.

Folios 329-330: enclosure with folios 325-326. Edward Bayley, Weymouth, 10 September 1804, to John Hacker. Received a circular letter a few days ago, and is sending the Protection granted to William Scriven, who was nevertheless pressed from Captain Dearling's vessel by Captain Wood, of HMS Acasta. Requests action to have him discharged. Will send the letter of indenture if required.

Folio 331-332: enclosure with folios 325-326. Copy letter of protection issued to William Scriven, apprentice to William Dearling of Weymouth, indentured 22 November 1802. Signed by Philip Stephens, William Elliott, J. Troubridge. Description of William Scriven.
