Folios 308-309: James Athol Wood, HMS Acasta, Plymouth. Acknowledges receipt of the letter of 20 July, enclosing a letter purporting to be from the ship's company. The company deny all knowledge of the letter. The Captain has reason to believe that 1 or 2 men only were involved. He can identify the author as William Clarke, who was taken from a ship at Havre de Grace at the start of the war. This man was punished 1 year ago for disaffected language, and has been under strictl watched ever since. He denies knowledge of the letter The Captain is confident that there are only 1 or 2 disaffected men on board, and that none of the company wish to change ship.
