Description

Folios 300-301: James Athol Wood, HMS Acasta, Plymouth. Encloses a letter and requests the protection needed in the circumstances of pressing. Has completed the complement of the Acasta, and has discharged over 100 men into other ships without disturbing the ships from which the men were taken.

Folios 302-303: enclosure with folios 300-301. John Haynes, 147 Fenchurch Street, 1 March 1804, to Captain Woods. Appointed by Messrs. Lindley and Zimmerman, agents and part owners of the Regulus privateer, to demand £438 12s in payment for the damage sustained by them and the other owners of the Regulus, by the taking of 4 men from her when at sea on 25 June 1803. Of the total, £14 14s is for bounty money for the 4 men. The remainder arises from the capture of the Bon Accord, a French brig from Guadaloupe, by the Regulus and Ajax privateers on 6 July 1803. The distribution of prize money was according to the number of men in each, the owners received £103 9s 6d for each man, leaving a consequent loss as stated. If payment is not made, proceedings will be issued.
