Folios 208-209: Daniel Woodriff, HMS Calcutta, Spithead. Reports his arrival at Spithead following the order of 23 March 1803. After arriving at Port Phillip [Victoria, Australia] on 9 October 1803, the new colony under Lieutenant Governor Collins was fixed upon. The store ship HMS Ocean was unloaded and discharged. Stores and provisions were also landed from HMS Calcutta and he was preparing to proceed to Port Jackson when the Lieutenant Governor requested him by letter (number 1, enclosed) to remain at Port Phillip until further instructions received from Governor King. HMS Ocean proceeded to Port Jackson en route to India, but Governor King decided to move the colony from Port Phillip to Van Diemen's land [Tasmania]. When HMS Ocean returned, Captain Woodriff proceeded with HMS Calcutta to Port Jackson and took on timber procured by the Governor, in addition to the timber he had cut at Port Phillip, and more that he cut in the Sydney area. Sends the invoice for the whole cargo (number 2, enclosed). He took on as much timber as possible by removing all ballast etc. Also encloses an account (number 3, enclosed) of the timber cut by himself and that received from Governor King, also an account of the ship's proceedings, by which it can be seen he sailed from Port Jackson on 16 March, passed Cape Horn 26 April, arrived Rio de Janeiro 22 May, and sailed again on 1 June, passing Cape Verde islands on the way to Spithead.
Folios 210-211: enclosure with folios 208-209. (enclosure number 1): David Collins [Lieutenant Governor, Port Phillip], Sullivan Bay, 1 November 1803, to Captain Daniel Woodriff, HMS Calcutta. Requests a delay in HMS Calcutta departing Port Phillip, until he receives further communication from Governor King. He has insufficient military to protect the stores unloaded from HMS Ocean, and has been forced to request a detachment of marines from HMS Calcutta, which he would lose if HMS Calcutta proceeds as ordered. He will request reinforcements be sent from the troops serving at Port Jackson, and requests a delay until he hears from Governor King.
Folios 212-215: enclosure with folios 208-209. (enclosure number 2): invoice of timber on board HMS Calcutta, Captain Daniel Woodriff, Sydney Cove, New South Wales, for the use of His Majesty's Government.
Folios 216-217: enclosure with folios 208-209. (enclosure number 3): account of timber cut at Port Phillip and at Port Jackson by John Dow, Carpenter, HMS Calcutta, on orders of Daniel Woodriff, Captain.
