Description

Folios 268-269: [Sir] Thomas Williams, HMS Neptune, [El] Ferrol: Reports that Henry George Lloyd was impressed into service and engaged as a Caulker on board the Admiral Gardiner, East India Company. Upon arrival in the UK, he voluntarily entered into service as a Caulker and was paid a £5 bounty. He is currently employed as a Caulker on the Neptune having passed his examination in Plymouth Yard.

Folios 270-271: enclosure with folios 268-269. Petition dated 12 September 1804 by William Rigler of Adam Street, Rotherhithe requesting discharge of Henry George Lloyd from the Naval service.

Folio 272: enclosure with folios 268-269. Sworn affidavit dated 11 September 1804 from William Rigler, 8 Adams Gardens, Adam Street, Riotherhithe, Caulker, stating that Henry George Lloyd has been impressed into service and is on board HMS Neptune. He was employed as a Caulker and served on the River Thames until February 1803 when he was engaged as a Caulker on board the Admiral Gardiner of the East India Company. On about the 22 May he was impressed out of the ship on her homeward bound passage. They were both apprenticed under the same Master and Henry George Lloyd was never employed on any river or canal as a Waterman nor did he previously go to sea.
