Folios 229-230: Edward Williams, Southampton. Reports that William Matthews was impressed into service whilst out drinking in a public house late at night.
Folios 231-232: enclosure with folios 229-23. Letter dated 9 May 1804 by A. Alderson, 5 Winchester Street, Broad Street. Request for the discharge of William Matthews, Chief Mate of HMS Spring, employed in the coal trade, who was impressed into service and taken on board the Royal William.
