Description

Captured ship: Traveller of Stockholm otherwise Traveiler, Reysendeman, or Rising Man (Hellbrand Cornelis, born in the Dutch Republic, citizen of Stockholm, otherwise Hillebrant Corneliss [Hellibrandt])

History: a Swedish merchant ship (120 tons, [1 passenger?], built at Zaandam, bought at Amsterdam 6 years before), bound from Bordeaux to Stockholm, laden with wine, vinegar and paper; taken on 12/22 May 1672 about 4 leagues off the Lizard by HMS Newcastle (Anthony Langston commanding) and brought into Plymouth on 14/24 May 1672.

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: standing interrogatories;
  • [CP 2]: two examinations at Plymouth, 18 May 1672, including an unfinished examination of a Swedish merchant, apparently a passenger aboard;
  • [CP 3]: abstracts of ships papers numbered 1-74 (these papers were probably restored).
