Description

Captured ships: three ships: Sugar (master Adrian Jobson), Croocke (master Anthony Dirrick), and St Peter (master Henry Jacobson), all of Zierikzee

History: three Dutch fishing vessels (doggers), bound from the island of Zierikzee on a fishing voyage, laden with pickled herring; taken [in late September/early October 1672, off Great Yarmouth], Sugar and Croocke [by HMS Portland (Thomas Guy commanding)], St Peter by HMS Mary (Sir Roger Strickland commanding), and all brought into Great Yarmouth [St Peter in the night of 26-27 September/6-7 October 1672].

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-2:-

  • [CP 1]: copy of two examinations taken at Great Yarmouth, 25 October 1672: the examinants belonged to a fourth prize dogger, Island of Zierikzee (master Hobeck Gilleson), also bound from Zierikzee on a fishing voyage, taken on 24 September/4 October 1672 off Great Yarmouth by HMS Portland (Thomas Guy commanding);
  • [CP 2]: appraisement of 25 barrels of decayed pickled herring aboard St Peter, 25 October 1672.
