No 24.

Captured ship: Forlorn Son otherwise Verloren Zoon or Prodigal Son of Heusden [Huisduinen] (commander Sijnnen Jansen Zoon).

History: a Dutch privateer (galliot hoy, 16 lasts, 18 men, built in the Dutch Republic), bound on a cruise from Heusden [Huisduinen, North Holland], taken in fight about 4 am on 18/28 February 1673/1674, near the port of Scalloway, Shetland, after a 2-hour fight, by an improvised party of 40 men in boats under Lieutenant Paul Mercer from HMS Cambridge (Arthur Herbert commanding), the warship being unable to approach in the shallow water, and brought into London.

Certificate, signed by Mercer, Jansen Zoon and 2 others, 23 March 1674. Galliot hoy Forlorn Son of House Downe [Huisduinen], 16 lasts, 18 crew, taken in fight at 4am on 28 February 1673/1674 by Lieutenant Paul Mercer of HMS Cambridge, near Scalloway.
