No 21.

Captured ship: Emmanuel or Imanuel of Hamburg (master Peter Bastiaansen, otherwise Peter Basteans of Rotterdam, resident of Hamburg).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (140 (100-200) tons, built at Hamburg for the owners about 12 months before the capture), having returned from Greenland with 8 whales, now bound from Hamburg to Lisbon, laden with pipe staves, Swedish iron, flax, Muscovy leather, cables, cordage, linen cloth, and other piece goods, as well as 100 empty cases for strong liquor and 200 Dutch cheeses; boarded first off Dover by a Dutch privateer (when clothes and money were plundered), then boarded again on 20/30 January 1672/3 by HMS Resolution (Sir John Berry commanding) and dismissed; seized on 21/31 January 1672/1673 in the mouth of Plymouth Sound between the Great Mew Stone and Penlee (whilst intending to join more Hamburg ships and other neutrals trading to Lisbon) by HMS Morning Star (Francis Reade commanding), and brought into Plymouth [on 23 January/2 February 1672/1673].
