Folios 383-384: Frederick Watkins, London. Reply concerning the property of General Augustine Rigaude. The trunk containing his clothes was not taken from him, but owing to a mistake was left on board HMS Nereide at Curacao. When found, it was sent to the General at Jamaica in HMS Legere. His other property of money, jewells and other goods was shared amongst the Officers and crew as enemy property. He denies doing anything contrary to Navy custom. He would willingly show charity to an enemy, but the French Mulatta General Rigaude, from the reports of the horrid treatment he subjected the British countrymen to, who were prisoners in his hands, he considers undeserving of such compassion.
