Folios 227-228: (Thomas) Wolley, Hinchelsey near Lyndhurst. Encloses a letter from Jacob Bell, late acting Boatswain of HMS De Ruyter, and previously Boatswain's Mate on HMS Arethusa during his stay at Madeira. Recommends him to be appointed as requested.
Folios 229-230: enclosure with folios 227-228. Letter dated 29 January 1803 by Jacob Bell, Boatswain, HMS De Ruyter, Port Royal Way, Jamaica, to Captain Thomas Wolley. After serving on HMS Arethusa he served on HMS De Ruyter and was then superceded by Henry Stephens. Captain Ballard has made an application to Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth for him to be reinstated on another ship, but as there is a waiting list for appointments, he will sail back to England and asks for assistance to obtain an appointment for him in England.
