Folios 302-303: James Wallis, HMS Naiad, Plymouth. Has received the letter and enclosure concerning the 2 men he sent in HMS Rambler at Liverpool and alluded to by Lord Stanley in a letter. J. Ogden claimed to be a Seaman and the other had served in HMS sloop the Rattler in Jamaica, although there is no testimony of enrolment. According to Captain Phillips, Adjutant, they had been enrolled as sublieutenants in the militia, he did not discharge them , the Commander in Chief at this Port has disposed of them.
Folios 304-305: enclosure with folios 302-303. Lord Stanley, Colonel 2nd Regiment Royal Lancaster Militia, Grosvenor Square, to Captain John Markham, The Admiralty. Information from Captain Phillips, Adjutant of his Regiment concerning the 2 men entered as Seamen on HMS Frigate the Naiad at Liverpool. Captain Wallis would not release them since they were not impressed. Captain Phillips and Mr. Bradford certify the men belonged the his corps.
