Folios 289-290: James Wallis, HMS Naiad, Liverpool. Asks for direction concerning Joseph Osborne and Samuel Downward. They were not impressed from the Brig William but from the Margaret sloop of Workington. They appear to be more than 20 years old. They ran from the people who now claim them 17 months ago and apparently had never been in their service, nor did the Owner and Captain of the Brig William know of their whereabouts until they were impressed.
Folios 291-292: enclosure with folios 289-290. Letter dated 12 March 1803 by Thomas Swainston, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Asks for the release of Joseph Osborne and Samuel Downward both under 18years belonging to the Brig William which is bound for the West Indies under Allison Crostwaite, Master. They are currently impressed and on board HMS Naiad, under James Wallis Commander. He reminds the Admiralty that the action of impressing Apprentices destroy the Nursery for Seamen.
