Folios 277-278: James Wallis, HMS Naiad, Liverpool. Reports that the tides of the Mersey are so rapid that it is only possible to board the ships at the Bar at slack water. A cutter or other small vessel would be very useful. Encloses a report of the state of HMS Naiad and provisions. These are very short particularly spirits having supplied the Revolution and the Spitfire and Seagull at Milford. He has not yet compiled information on the impressed men. Some are young and call themselves Apprentices and applications have not been made to their Masters and some are Americans, but have no protections. He has not detained anyone of the description given by the Admiralty. Impressing is always difficult and accompanied by danger, but no accidents happened.
