Description

Folios 128-129: Thomas Wallbeoff [Regulating Captain] Poole. In response to information of the case of Henry Barnes and Henry Neal, Mates who have been detained and the applicant Mr. Spurrier; it is not necessary to have an affidavit of the state of a vessel. The names of the 2 are not on the ship's articles.

Folios 130-131: enclosure with folios 128-129. Letter dated 17 November 1803 by William Spurrier, Mayor of Poole. Henry Barnes, Mate of Spurrier's ship the Christopher and Henry Neal, Mate of Spurrier's ship the Nancy were impressed and are now in the Rendezvous. The mates attended the Custom House in order for the bounty on the fish aboard to be recovered. Affidavits from the Mates are enclosed. The Mates refuse to swear to the quantity of fish unless they are discharged. Spurrier asks for an early reply.

Folio 132: enclosure with folios 128-129. Letter dated 14 March 1803 by Charles Walker, Master of the Christopher, Poole. Certifies that Henry Barnes is the Mate on the Christopher.

Folio 133: enclosure with folios 128-129. Letter dated 10 October 1803 by Thomas Roe, Master of the Nancy of Poole. Certifies that Henry Neal is Chief Mate on the Nancy. Witnessed by Francis Bradshaw, JP, Placential, Newfoundland.

Folios 134-135: enclosure with folios 128-129. Letter dated 18 November 1803 by William Spurrier, Mayor of Poole. In addition to the documents sent previously, he encloses 2 certificates from the Customs House to prove the legitimacy of the Mates. The Nancy has left for Liverpool, the Mate did not have a certificate from the local Collector.
