Captured ship: Love of London, otherwise Hope of London (master Robert Russell, otherwise Ressell; prize master Cornelis Arens of Flushing, otherwise Arents).
History: an English merchant ship (fluit, 200-[300] tons, [12 guns], built in the Dutch Republic, 6 crew prisoners and 16 prize crew when retaken), bound from Malaga to London, laden with Malaga wine and raisins; in company with 3 other English merchant ships from Malaga (including the Nevis Adventure of Bristol), taken in fight (an action lasting about 11 hours, with 11 crew killed) on 5/15 [or 6/16] November 1672, about 50 leagues from the mouth of the Channel, 80 leagues west of Scilly by the 16-gun Dutch privateer Hope of Flushing (Jacob Vogel commanding, otherwise Jacob Vogells), then sent in for Flushing; retaken on 10/20 November 1672 off the Lizard by HMS Pearl (John Ashby commanding), and brought first into Falmouth and then into Plymouth about 2 days later. Two Dutch privateers, the other unnamed [of 24 guns], attacked the four English merchant ships.
