Folios 298-299: Thomas Wolley, HMS Arethusa, Aubin's Bay, Jersey. Reply to letter with enclosure from Mr Michael Cowan and as directed state that he is a man of a most infamous character that he purposely remained behind when he mentions, notwithstanding being ordered on board and was in consequence Run. During the absence of the ship he subsisted by swindling and last I heard he was in Goal at Portsmouth and then on HMS Prince George, Captain James Walker who was not acquainted with him belonging to HMS Arethusa.
Folios 300-301: enclosure with folios 298-299. Michael Cowan, 51 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Dated 21 July 1800. Letter about a passage from Lisbon when he was a passenger on HMS Arethusa.
