Folios 220-221: Josiah Wittman, HMS La Suffisante, Stonehouse Pool. Reports that on the 4 and 9 December 1799, in the company of HMS Constitution [commanded by Lieutenant John Whiston], I recaptured 2 English merchantman. It not being mentioned in the Act of Parliament in what class the Master of a Hired Cutter is to share with the Officers of a Kings ship and the Warrant Officers of HMS Suffisante not being satisfied it is proper he should share with them. Requests to be informed of what Class the Master of a Hired Cutter is to be paralled to an HM Ship of War.
