Folios 264-265: enclosed with folios 262-263. Letter dated 20 February 1800 by John Watts, HMS Osprey. Reports his arrival at the Downs to resume cruising but states that the ship has not been properly inspected for defects after HMS Ganges fell on her during a gale. The damage is described and was reported previously on arrival at Sheerness.
Folios 266-267: enclosed with folios 262-263. Letter dated 10 September 1800 by John Rudolph Lauffer, Governor of Curacao and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the island. Authorises Robert Cann, captain of a company of cavalry, to proceed to a frigate which is in view and ask for assistance in relieving it of a strong enemy force. Frederick Watkins, HMS Neride, Amsterdam, Curacao, writes to John Rudolph Lauffer to offer assistance with provisos concerning enemy vessels and their cargos, and goods brought on board HMS Neride. In reply Lauffer agrees to the conditions imposed for assistance from HMS Neride.
Folios 268-269: enclosed with folios 262-263. Letter dated 10 September 1800 by John Rudolph Lauffer, Fort Amsterdam, Curacao. Accepts the conditions set but states that friendly contacts with Spanish settlements are essential but privateers will not be allowed use of the port. In a further letter Lauffer lays out the conditions imposed and accepts them inviting him into the harbour and fortifications. Recommends that only the Dutch flag should fly about the fort.
Folios 270-271: enclosed with folios 262-263. Letter dated 11 September 1800 by Frederick Watkins, HMS Neride, off Amsterdam, Curacao. Writes that the island should be surrendered to Britain and he will then land forces which can only fight under British colours meaning that both flags will fly. Despatches will be sent to Lord Hugh Seymour, Commander in Chief of the forces in Jamaica to ask for additional ships and troops. Lauffer responds by asking that assistance is given immediately and without ceremony.
Folios 272-273: enclosed with folios 262-263. Letter dated 11 September 1800 by Frederick Watkins, HMS Neride off Curacao. Explains to Lauffer that HMS Nereide should remain at sea where it can see the enemy and prevent it from receiving reinforcements and mentions enemy vessels at St Micahels and Piscadera. Discusses how an entry to the harbour should be made when additional vessels arrive to assist, sends a code of signals and British flags.
