Folios 401-402: John Watts, Gore Roads.
Reports his arrival with the transport Betsy having touched at Madeira with 3 transports going to the Cape of Good Hope with troops. At Goree island the Betsy was unloaded. No papers are enclosed but mention is made of Lieutenant Patterson who listed the ammunition and guns, the surgeon Mr Forbes and Mr Forbes the commissary of provisions. Governor Tidy sent a statements from the inhabitants of the island who seem pleased with the takeover by the British and determined to repel the French. .
