Folios 315-316: Thomas Wolley, HMS Arethusa off Havre. Reporting that a boat managed to get out to them from Havre the previous day, with a man from whom they receive intelligence. In consequence Wolley is sending this message by the lugger Thetis to say that the ships' companies of the frigates and corvettes in the basin have been taken out within the last few days and marched off by land to Brest, just skeleton crews being left on the ships to give the impression they are ready for sea. Men have also been left on some of the flats and gunboats that protect the town. Admiral Le Crosse has struck his flag and gone, it is reported, to Ostend, a Monsieur Le Fabere commanding in his place. They are also transporting by land, at great expense, quantities of sails and cordage, to Brest, where it is reported that a large armament is being equipped. He says the death of Buonaparte has been reported, though not publicly announced, and also has heard a report that the La Forte, a French frigate, has been taken by the British in the East Indies.
