Folios 246-247: Isaac Wolley, HMS Nonsuch, White Booth Roads, Humber. Letter enclosing one from the Collector of Customs at Hull, with other enclosures. In consequence of this he has given orders to the Phoenix lugger, and the Bruizer gun brig to get ready for sea immediately, copy of said orders enclosed. Says he has sent Captain Bradley, senior officer in the River Humber, in the Hawk, an account of what has been done, and informed him that both the Admiralty and the Rt Hon Lord Duncan have been advised of same, also that he, Wolley, would be happy to follow whatever orders Duncan should give. Says that if the Ariadne has sailed before the Phoenix comes down, he intends to forward her with the vessel mentioned by the Collector. Folio 248: enclosure with folios 246-247. Letter sent from Yarmouth by post. From Commissioner General Henry Notz, in the Texel at Helder, 12 September 1799. Urgent directive for Wolley to send out to Helder 4,000 sacks of biscuit, or failing that the equivalent in household flour (white flour if that is not available). The urgency is stressed, and he requests that the laden ships are sent if possible each with a fast-sailing ship of war. If no convoys are available the ships should follow one another, the first is to come back with the ship bringing his order. Tells Wolley to send the bills to him, he will pay with a draft on HM Treasury at 60 days. Folio 249: enclosure with folios 246-247. Letter from the Collector of Customs at Hull, Robert Harnish[?], 23 September 1799. Says he had intended to do himself the pleasure of visiting Wolley but the business is too pressing, so sending this letter by Mr Titchett, one of his tide surveyors. Stresses the urgency and importance of the request from Mr Notz and says he has had a letter from the Treasury on the same subject. Asks that a cutter or lugger to be ready by Wednesday to convoy a small sloop with supplies to the Helder. Folios 250 and 251: enclosure with folios 246-247. Orders from Captain Wolley, on 23 September 1799, for the commander of the Phoenix, and for Lt Johnson, commanding the Bruizer, directing both to prepare their ships for sea as soon as possible and then call on him for further orders.
