Folios 209-210: Charles Wollaston, HMS Cruizer, Leith Roads. Reporting back to their Lordships on the results of a sailing comparison he has done with HMS Victor, Captain Rennie, as per the directions in their letter of 20 June 1798. Says the Cruizer had the advantage in all points of sailing, especially when close hauled, though they were light at the time, having only 12 tons of water on board, they weathered and headed 'astonishingly', at almost seven knots, while the Victor with all sail set was barely achieving five. Going large they beat him also, though not by so much. In general he says when sailing with most ships the Cruizer is best upon a wind, and very weatherly.
