Folios 161-162: Josiah Wittman, HMS La Suffisante off the Isle de Bas.
Advising that around noon a convoy of 20 or 30 ships will have arrived from the eastward in Bas Roads, bound for Brest - they had sailed on Friday morning but returned to their anchorage on Wittman's standing towards them, then got under way again this morning. Having reconnoitred he finds they are much too strong for him to attack, so he has sent the Speedwell with this information for their Lordships. Also encloses a paper of intelligence from the master of a cartel who sailed from Morlaix that morning. As he has now been at sea for 7 weeks he says they will not be able to remain on this station much longer.
