Folios 157-158: Josiah Wittman, La Suffisante, Guernsey.
Advising that having received orders from Admiral Sir Richard King on 9 January 1799, to cruise the Isle of Bas, he had been on that station until this day, 14 February, when a gale so severe set in that he was obliged to throw 5 of the guns overboard to save the sloop and to run for this port. As soon as the weather permits he intends to make for Plymouth.
