Description

Folios 330-331: Isaac Wolley, HMS Nonsuch, White Booth Roads. He encloses two letters he has received from Lieutenant Wood, commander of HMS Steady who by the order of Admiral Lord Viscount Duncan has been stationed for the defence of the River Humber. Following receipt of these letters Captain Wolley has ordered him to White Booth Roads which is safer than The Hawke Roads. Should the Admiralty approve, he will order him to accompany trade ships to The Nore so that HMS Steady may then go on to be refitted at Sheerness. Alternatively, if the Admiralty wishes, HMS Steady will remain in the Humber where Captain Wolley can provide him with some cable and they will send to Sheerness for other supplies.

Folios 332-333: enclosure with folios 330-331. Letter dated 7 October 1798 by Lieutentant J. Wood, HMS Steady, White Booth Roads, to Captain Wolley. He reports that his vessel has had no supply of stores since she left the Nore in December and so there are a number of deficiencies amd also that the ship's cables are worn.

Folios 334-335: enclosure with folios 330-331. Letter dated 4 October 1798 by Lieutenant J Wood, HMS Steady, Hawke Roads, to Captain Wolley. He reports his ship only has one serviceable cable. A recent gale has also damaged the small bower which makes him worry it will not hold out much longer. He asks for orders.
