Folios 405-407: George Blagden Westcott, HMS Majestic, Torbay. Reports that on the desertion of HMS Saturn from the fleet, he had lost all command of the ship. Describes how a blue flag was hoisted and people appointed to command and pilot the ship and how he tried to prevent the ship from entering the port to prevent ships like HMS Glory from following the lead of HMS Majestic. Advises that the majority of the men were assembled on the Forecastle crying"Go in go in - we want tobacco - you are keeping us at sea while you are hanging our friends". Gives a detailed account of the events that followed and his negotiations with the men which resulted in them lowering the flag and returned to good order and obedience. Mentions Lieutenant Menzies and Lieutenant Cuthbert as being determined to put two of the ringleaders to death. Captain Jardine, Royal Marines being of great personal assistance. Advises that he had sent a boat to attend the Master on a survey on board HMS Glory when message was brought that they were ready to join HMS Majestic and the signal of a Pair of Trousers at the Spritsail yardarm was made.
Folio 408: enclosure with folios 405-407. Letter dated 2 July 1797 by George Blagden Westcott, HMS Majestic, to Admiral Alexander Arthur Hood, Lord Bridport. Copy of letter advising that the cheese and molasses on board have been reduced to a small quantity and asks, on behalf of the Ship's Company, if Admiral Lord Bridport would order the ship into port as they complain of utmost distress for tobacco.
Folio 409: enclosure with folios 405-407. Letter dated 10 July 1797 by George Blagden Westcott, HMS Majestic, Torbay, to Admiral Alexander Arthur Hood,Lord Bridport. Copy of note advising that the Purser has returned from Plymouth with two hogshead of tobacco and he now feels himself perfectly secure on all points.
Folio 410: enclosure with folios 405-407. Letter dated 17 July 1797 by the Admiralty, to George Bladen Westcott. Draft note to acquaint Westcott that the Admiralty approve of his proceedings and that in case of any further attempt of that sort should be made, he is to exert his endeavours to secure the Ringleaders and bring them to a Court Martial.
