Description

Folios 163-164: Sir John Borlase Warren, HMS Pomone, Falmouth. Mentions a petition for the Commanders of the Chasse Marees at Falmouth for their services to the Royal Navy since February 1796 and states that he supports their request to be granted the allowances he gave them when under his command at Quiberon. States that they are deserving of such attention and as well as in need of clothes and their vessels in poor order. Asks if they can be allowed the accustomed tonnage of 5s per ton per month in addition to their wages. Advises that he directed the Contractor at the port to victual them as well as some other Royalists Seamen who are there. Reports that Julien Corriton, late Commander of the Marie Olive Casse Maree, who was employed on 26 December 1795 to carry cavalry to the continent but wrecked in a gale on the island of Houat, has been with the Royal Navy ever since but has never received any recompense. Also asks for Justin le Quellec, Jacque le Bauzec, Jean Rohu, Pierre Kzerho, Francois Michel and Aliri Colet who were employed under his command at Quiberon and Isle Dieu, then later impressed on L'Unite which was captured by Captain Sir Edward Pellew and who were permitted by Pellew to remain with the Royalists in the Chasse Marees at Falmouth, are given the same wages as other seamen. Advises that seven men employed by Captain Sir Edward Pellew as Postmen have also not been paid anything: Le Cane, Corfmat, Jean Marie Comenen, Pierre Marion, Francois Merise, Jean P [?Mariony]. Suggests that as it is probable that the services of these men may no longer be necessary, that it would be to the satisfaction to all who have known them and witnessed their efforts in the cause of Royalty, if the Ambassador now going to the Continent or Mr [Henry]Swinburne in Paris, can obtain permission for them to return to their families and friends under the agreement made between the Government of France and the Chiefs of the Chouans in Brittany.
