Description

Folios 290-291: John Woodley, HMS Leda, at sea off the Lizard. Informs that he has left Quiberon Bay on the evening of 26 September 1795 with HMS Lively and twenty one Merchantmen sail. The wind is preventing them from entering Falmouth so has ordered Captain George Stewart, the Lord Garlies, HMS Lively, off the port to land the dispatches and then to rejoin the convoy. Encloses a copy of the Orders from Sir Albemarle Bertie, Captain, HMS Thunderer, a list of the convoy and a report on the state and condition of HMS Leda and HM Lively (latter two not enclosed).

Folio 292: enclosure with folios 290-291. Letter dated 25 September 1795 by Sir Albemarle Bertie, Captain, HMS Thunderer, Quiberon Bay, to John Woodley, HMS Leda. Orders to take under his command HMS Lively and, in convoy, the Transports who have on board the Regiments d'Hector, d'Hervilly and du Dresnay, and the Leighton Hospital Ship, and any other empty Transport ships and to proceed to Spithead.

Folio 293: enclosure with folios 290-292. List of twenty Merchant vessels under convoy of HMS Leda, John Woodley, Captain, from Quiberon Bay, 26 September 1705. Nominal list detailing: Master and Owner; whether Ship, Brig or Sloop; loading; number of tonnage, guns and men; where belonging and where bound. Includes the Juno and the Kingstowncarrying French emigres and the Aurora, the Eliza, and the Themis carrying French troops.
