Description

Folios 226-227. Letter from Lord Harcourt to Lord Weymouth that he has received from the Commander-in-Chief a memorial from Lieutenant-Colonel Paston Gould commanding the 30th Foot praying that Ensign Spires of that regiment be superseded. Ensign Spires having broken his arrest under which he was put for being absent from his quarters without leave is now in Edinburgh 'writing for a livelihood with an attorney and means to go on the stage there'. Lieutenant-Colonel Gould seeks 'to prevent such a disgrace to the Regiment'. Harcourt asks that if the King consents to supersede Ensign Spires a commission be signed appointing Jeremiah Palmer ensign in room of Spires. Dated at Dublin Castle.
