Description

Folios 204-205. Letter from Lord Weymouth to Lord Harcourt in reply to Harcourt's letters of 11 and 15 November [folios 180-181; 182-183]. Harcourt will receive the order permitting Long and Allen's ship to carry provisions to Jamaica without waiting for convoy. The object of the two other petitions enclosed with Harcourt's letter of 11 November is dealt with by the Order in Council of 14 [November] which declares that the condition of sailing with convoy does not extend to ships bringing provisions from Ireland to Great Britain nor to such as carry provisions from port to port in Ireland. The petition of the Mayor, Sheriffs etcetera of Cork is under consideration and Harcourt 'may be assured that every facility and indulgence will be granted' to the King's subjects in Ireland 'consistent with the salutary and important embargo for the safety and interest of all His Majety's Dominions'. Dated at St James's.
