Description

Folios 307-308. Letter from the Earl of Buckingham to Lord Viscount Weymouth regarding two of the bills referred to in [SP 63/460, ff 305-306] and relating to duties and the advancement of the trade of Ireland. These bills were passed in consequence of the Act of the last session of the British Legislature allowing the exportation of various goods directly from Ireland to 'the Plantations in America, the West Indies and the Settlements on the Coasts of Africa' with the exception of the export of any manufacture of Ireland unless they are chargeable with duties to as great an amount as comparable goods exported to the same places from Great Britain are charged with. Giving effect to the intentions of this Act necessitated some changes to existing Irish duties, in respect of which the House of Commons resolved that they would make good any consequential losses to His Majesty's Hereditary Revenue. Buckingham has caused a paper with observations on these two bills to be prepared and transmitted to Weymouth, Sir Stanier Porten, the Lord President, and to Mr Robinson for the use of Lord North. Dated at Dublin Castle.
