Description

Folios 259-260. Letter from Richard Heron to [Sir Stanier Porten?] regarding the head of the bill for relief of the King's Roman Catholic subjects in Ireland taken into consideration of a Committee of the whole House. He recounts the proceedings and the debating of a clause giving Roman Catholics power to purchase Estates of inheritance to descend, with those they now possess, without 'gavelling' - a compromise was reached with an amendment enabling them to hold leases for 999 years. A motion was subsequently made for leave to introduce into the heads of the bill a clause for the relief of the 'Protestant Dissenters' in Ireland with a view to the repeal of the Test Act. Dated at Dublin Castle.
