Description

Folios 40-45. Letter from the Earl of Buckingham to Lord Viscount Weymouth enclosing a paper by Lieutenant Colonel Vallancey, Director of Engineers, setting out his opinion in respect to the artillery and stores ordered by the King to be sent to Ireland. Vallancey recommends extensive works at great expense to secure the harbours of Waterford, Cork, Kinsale, Shannon and Galway. The Commander in Chief for his part has no doubt that the design is very proper (namely to make the situation of ships in those harbours much safer) but cannot judge as to the particulars of it in terms of location and mode. Dated at Dublin Castle. Enclosed: Folios 42-46: Opinion of Lieutenant Colonel Vallancey, Director of Engineers, regarding the artillery and stores ordered by the King to be sent to Ireland.
