Folios 234-235: James Hawkins-Whitshed, HMS Arrogant, Nore. Encloses letter from Lieutenant Instice. Has held back from sending it to the Admiralty in the hope that Lieutenant Instice's health would improve but as this has not proved to be the case is now forwarding it.
Folios 236-237: enclosure with folios 234-235. Letter dated 21 January 1794 from Philip Instice, HMS Arrogant, Blackstakes. As is in ill health is not capable to carrying out his duties and wishes to be"superceded".
