Folios 275-276: Francis Wooldridge, HMS Fortune, Sheerness. Reports his arrival yesterday evening from the Downs as per the orders of Rear Admiral John Macbride and with a number of men on board sick with fevers, thirteen of whom are now in the Hospital Ship at Sheerness. Believes the fever, which has run through the ship, was brought in by the newly raised men who were received on board from London. Intends to wash and smoke the hold to get the ship ready for sea. Advises that the Apparatus fixed to the stern is very dangerous and causes the ship to take on water and hinders her sailing. Requests an Order to have it removed. Also reports an earlier incident on 5 January 1793 when, going from the Nore to the Downs, the ship was run onto Oaze Edge due to a mistake by the Pilot which has resulted in some damage to the cables. Commodore Murray also mentioned.
