Description

Folios 196-197: Clotworthy Upton, HMS Junon, Quebec. Reports that the Surgeon on HMS Penelope represented to him the state of health of her Commander. He has caused a Survey of Sir Charles Sullivan Bart. to be held and has directed him to discharge himself from the Command of HMS Penelope and have ordered him a passage to England in HMS Antelope. Report enclosed [Inc.]. Having reason to know that the Commander in Chief has promoted Lieutenant [Joseph?] Cockran on HMS Junon to Command HMS Dotterel [Doterel], it is my instruction to place this officer in Command of HMS Penelope, when he has returned from Ontario, to take her to Halifax or until another officer is appointed.

Folio 198: enclosure with folios 196-197. Pursuant to an Order from Clotworthy Upton, HMS Junon, and Senior Officer at Quebec dated 3 October 1814. The three named:- Clotworthy Upton, HMS Junon, Samuel Butcher, HMS Antelope and Arthur Philip Hamilton, HMS Ceylon. have been on board HMS Penelope and with the assistance of our respective surgeons have taken a strict and careful survey on the health of Sir Charles Sullivan Bart. Captain and find he has a severe attack of fever and is unlikely for some months to be able to Command HMS Penelope.
