Folios 234-235: Henry Vansittart, Bisham Abbey, Berkshire. He refers to the accounts of HMS Bonetta and the purchase of wine for the vessel which have been charged to his personal account. He explains that while in the West Indies the crew, including officers and the surgeon fell sick with fever. A third of his crew died as a result. He bought the wine for medicinal purposes for the crew and he hopes therefore that he will be reimbursed.
Folios 236: enclosure with folios 234-235. Letter dated 21 April 1800 by John McBean, purser of HMS Bonetta Lucia, Jamaica. A statement to Richard Dickinson & Co from the purser recording the quantities wine. The statement is also signed by three merchants based in Lucia confirming the prices given in the statement. The Statement is also subscribed by Captain Vansittart and Pat Collins the Boatswain of HMS Bonetta confirming the truth of the statement and confirming also that the wine was received on board.
