Folio 217: Henry Vansittart, Bisham Abbey, Berkshire. One page only. The Admiralty has failed to approve the accounts of HMS Bonetta for the year 4 August 1798 to 3 August 1799. He explains that a catalogue of problems over the period meant he had no carpenter including during a period when the ship was being refitted in Deptford. Accordingly no proper survey was taken of the carpenter's stores. He writes that he kept a very close eye on expenditure, and when he did get a carpenter he was a highly reputable man and on that basis he is certain the navy suffered no loss. He hopes the accounts will now be approved.
