Folios 215-216: Henry Vansittart, HMS Thunderer. The Admiralty has asked him to comment on a letter from Captain Bligh. However, he is short of personnel and so he has been busy preparing pay books and making the ship ready for docking. He promises to reply to their request in the next day's post. The issue is a list of those men he has sent to hospital as sick and unfit and those men he retained and those men he sent elsewhere. In so doing he writes that he tried as best he could to comply with the orders given by Vice Admiral Gromes. His intention throughout was to act in the best interests of the Navy and he asks the Admiralty therefore to overlook any errors he may have made.
