Description (What the record is about)
-
This series contains records relating to the situation of Welsh farmers from the years 1997-1999, when factors such as BSE measures, the collapse of the rouble, and the strength of the pound contributed to a significant collapse in income for many Welsh farmers and led to serious concerns about the future of Welsh agriculture. The files include a variety of correspondence from affected farmers across Wales, alongside briefings and meetings on a number of farming-related issues, including support packages and compensation for hill farmers in Less Favoured Areas (LFAs); Common Agricultural Policy reforms; and the future of farming in Wales.
