Folios 434-437: George Vancouver, Hotwells, Bristol.
Has just received the complaint of the Viceroy of Mexico, via the Spanish Ambassador to Lord Grenville that he did not reimburse his Excellency for the expenses incurred for the maintenance of five English deserters. He gives a very detailed history of how he informed the Admiralty of these deserters and of his dealings about them. He states that he had no correspondance with the Viceroy who was several hundred miles away. He would not have known how to set about calculating a suitable reimbursement and did not have the means of making it or authorisation. The local Governor Borsia thought it a matter 'of trivial import'. He also explains the reasons he refused to take a Dane and two Portuguese on board.
