Folios 224-225: George Vancouver, HMS Discovery, Deptford. Requests that the appointments of Spelman Swaine and Thomas Manby as Lieutenants to replace Mudge and Broughton who he sent home with dispatches during his voyage be confirmed and dated from when when he appointed them. He also recommends the following Mates and Midshipmen though they have yet to pass the examinations: Robert Barrie, John Sykes, John Stewart, Nalant [?] Vashon Ballard, Edwin Charlton Harris and the Hon. Charles Stuart. A Mr. Humphreys is also particularly recommended.
Folios 226-227: enclosure with folios 224-225. Letter dated 26 September 1792 by George Vancouver, HMS Discovery, Nootka Sound. Appoints Spelman Swaine as 3rd Lieutenant and Lieutenant at Arms on HMS Discovery in place of Lieutenant Puget.
Folio 228: enclosure with folios 224-225. Office memo, undated. Queries whether such orders have ever been confirmed - can find no precedents.
