Folios 196-201: George Vancouver, HMS Discovery, Valpariso Bay. Account of his proceedings on leaving Monterrey on 21 December 1794, via Cacos. Writes of numerous whales, seals and penguins. Loss of the main mast forced him into port despite Admiralty orders against doing so. The Governor Senor Lewis de Alava was friendly and hospitable and the Captain General and President of Chile, Dr. Ambrose Higgins Valamar appealed to. A new mast procured and provisions for the voyage to England. He apologies for the fact he had to draw on the Account of the British Government for this as private bills were not acceptable. He praises the hospitality of the Resident of Valpariso, an Irishman by birth and enjoyed a visit to San Iago.
Folio 202: enclosure with folios 196-201. Return dated 28 April 1795 of the state and condition of the Discovery and the Chatham, Valpariso Bay.
